Wow!
Something a little different!
Dating from around the 1930's -40's this Ericsson telephones is great! Originally used on the railways or in a working enviroment.
A very deep dark chestnut coloured wooden case with writing slope, external brass bells set this telephone off, it looks gorgeous.
It has been dismantled and cleaned, refinished and it comes with all of its original wear and blemishes that have taken place in the last 80-90 years. Fitted with one of our own cloth handset cords and line cord.
When this arrived in the workshp it was in a very sorry state, it was missing all cables and its handset and the wood work had been repaired.
After a lot of time and effort it is now a fully functioning telephone with a full 12 digit key pad installed internally.
Originally you would pick up the handset, turn the handle and this would ring the bell on the other telephone or exchange whichever was connected to it. Fabulous!
The missing handset has been replaced with a 156 handset and the bell coils needed to be replaced too. Internally all the components are there however we have added extra parts to make it safe to use and function correctly.
When a telephone comes to us for repair / restoration sometimes it is a little difficult to decide 'how far to go' with the renovation process. We try to keep as many original parts as possible and to retain its 'used look'.
Our main objective is to 'revive' as many of the telephones we have and to get them fully functioning again for modern day use so they can be used again for many generations to come.
We have taken a very different approach on this telephone. The original parts have be retained however, on opening the door it reveals a fully functioning full 12 key push button keypad to allow you to use the telephone on any network. Suitable for full menu selection and telephone banking etc.
The internal components allow the telephone to function safely and reliably and to look beautiful wherever this telephone is displayed or used. Understandably it has had a bit of paintwork in the past.
The approximate dimensions are height 39cm, depth (including writing slope) 23cm, width (including handset and magneto handle) 35cm.
This telephone is a real gem, please look at all the photographs to see all its original detail and character, a genuine old telephone that has been saved and one that externally has retained all its history.
All you have to do is plug it into your telephone socket, use it and admire it.
Enjoy!
